earth divas eco handbagsWhat Is Fairtrade? Have you ever wondered.

Fairtrade clothing, fairtrade products, Fairtrade Starbucks coffee, Huh.

What does all that stuff mean?

Well if you have ever been to your local grocery store, farmers market or high end health food stores. I am sure you have seen the logo or passed by it once or twice. Maybe you have heard about in your local media.

But exactly what is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade is basically a new organized system to ensure that companies around the world. Are treating their workers fairly and honestly. While at the same time giving back to the community in which their workers live. This organization makes sure that environmental sustainability, fair labor conditions, are put into place and followed. It also ensures the reinvestment of resources into local communities.

Pretty Much this act makes it better for all people.

So who regulates Fairtrade and makes the decision if a product or business can be labeled Fairtrade?

Internationally, there is the Fairtrade Labeling Organization, or FLO, which co-ordinates Fairtrade labeling at an international level. Their offices are located in Bonn, Germany and they:

* Set international Fairtrade standards

* Organize support for producers around the world

* Develop global Fairtrade strategy

* Promote trade justice internationally

Nationally, there is the Fair Trade Federation. The FTF was established to strengthen and promote North American organizations fully committed to fair trade. The Federation is part of the global Fairtrade movement, building equitable and sustainable trading partnerships and creating opportunities to alleviate poverty.

Likewise, there is also a European Fair Trade Association. EFTA's goal is to promote fair trade and to make fair trade importing more efficient and effective.

The Fairtrade Action Network was than established to connect volunteers who are interested in promoting fair trade. Their goal is to create an internet community to share ideas and experiences on fair trade campaigning.

So who can use the Fairtrade Mark?

Well every country has its own labeling Initiative which varies from country to country however they all have to meet Flo Standards.

As you can see, Fairtrade is a global initiative.

When you buy Fairtrade  you are helping to ensure that workers around the world are treated fairly. It is bringing global production to a whole new level. Allowing you the consumer the  option of knowing if what you are wearing is fairtrade, and if what you are eating was produced honestly.

I know we all can't do Fair trade 100% of the time, heck even I can't.

Even the little bit that we can do will go a long way.

So whenever you can buy Fairtrade.

My Summer Reading List.

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure for more Info.

I've taken it upon myself to catch up on some of the books that I have bought, but not yet had a chance to read. I love to read and it is one of the many pleasures that bring me joy and peace of mind. Reading is an escape of the mind from the day to day troubles of the world.  When I read, I do not not read many fiction books. So when I do read, I have to make sure they are something that I can learn and benefit from.

Here are some books that I recently found on my one of favorite sites natural moms talk radio. So I decided I needed to get my hand on these books and read them myself.

So my summer reading list consists of the following books on learning, growing and sharing. All to enhance the self and grow as an individual.

The Feminine Mistake: Are we giving up too much? A book about challenging ones thought on whether being a stay at home mom is the right thing to do for your family and your inner self. Controversial……..

The Out Of Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder. This ground breaking book explains SPD and shows a way for parents to cope without using drugs. I currently have a son with SPD, so this will be a informative read.

“The Parents Bible to Sensory Processing Disorder” ~ The New York Times.

All the Money In The World: What the Happiest People Know About Getting and Spending. A book that will truly have you examining how you view money and the role it plays in your life's. I'm currently reading this one so a book review is coming very soon!!

Bringing Up Be'Be': The story of how one American Mother discovers the Wisdom Of French Parenting. Learning from other cultures has always intrigued me and applying some of their methods might just help me with guiding my children through life.

The Power Of Habit – Why We Do What We Do In Life and Business: Shows the key to why some succeed and others don't all based on the habit of their life's.  The power of habit is one book, I'm uber excited to read! Psychology is one subject that has always caught my interest in fact at one time I thought I was going to be a social Psychologist.  Shocker, I know.

All in all I can't wait to dig in and learn all the great info from these gems and when I do, you will be the first ones to read the review. For sure!

I Decided To Become A Site Plumber.

From the title of the post you may be wondering what crazy exciting things are happening in my life. Well none at the moment, I just decided that after much thought I need to re-brand myself. Essentially I needed to plumb out some of the kinks in my site. I started off this site as Kinkyhairchick with the hope of spreading natural and healthful information to my readers.

However, I feel that the domain name that I chose for myself in the beginning is actually confusing my followers more so than I thought It would. Because when people come to my site they think it is only about hair when that is what it is least about.

I blog about natural living, natural health, organic beauty products and natural mothering along with showing my natural hair journey.

I am so sorry if I have confused any up until now.

That is why I have changed my domain name to “I'm a Natural Chick” in hopes of taking the confusion out of the matter.

I love the Kinkyhairchick name and still keeping the same domain name just not using it for this site. The site now is in the process of being moved over to the new domain name with a new header. So not much is really changing just the domain name and a couple of features.

So I hope that you will embrace the new changes and come with on my journey on Natural Living the Natural Chick way.

I am going to keep the Kinkyhairchick facebook page for those that want updates on my hair progress only. I will still keep the same twitter stream But I have created a new twitter feed for the re-branding. And will send out the new links by email and social messaging for you to re-connect with me there. Or you can just do so by clicking here. The New Facebook page is also in the works.

So until than I hope that this clears up some of the confusion and I will not be making any new posts until after the first week of May when the re-branding is complete.

Update: THE NEW FACEBOOK IS NOW ACTIVE AND YOU CAN FIND IT HERE.

Thanks for Understanding,

Luv you guys:)

If you could sum it all up for new naturals what advice would you give them?

I would say learn your own hair. There are so many different women out there with so many different types of hair. You have to really figure out what your hair likes and doesn't like to have a successful journey. Also, do what makes you feel good!…some may like it, some may love, it and some may absolutely hate it!

Recently I did a video to show you how I make one of my favorite homemade Shea butter recipes. I use a variety of different types of Shea butters and can honestly say that I love the now solutions brand of Shea butter. It is a white Shea butter with a creamy light texture to it. It is easy to mix with other ingredients as you see fit and once on your hair it leaves a light airy feeling to your hair. Allowing your hair to breathe and not feel weighed down.

I am experimenting with other butters such a mango butters, and illpe butter for my hair, and will make another video once I am pleased with another homemade version that my hair and skin loves.

Yes, I use this mixture on my hair and skin.

Good Stuff!

Ingrediants Used:

Now Solutions Shea Butter Mixture

Coconut Oil: Spectrum brand or Nutiva ( the one I normally use)

Argon Oil: Indian Based Oil  (Great for strength and shine)

Jojoba Oil: Love, Love this Oil So light and a little goes a long way.

Avocado Oil: Unknown to Many but this oil is rich in vitamins A, D, E, its acts as a natural humectant,  and rich in proteins and amino acids.
