I recently had the chance this weekend, to attend the Orlando's very own Natural Hair and beauty Workshop. Located in sunny Orlando, Florida located close to Disney. This event was one surely I was not going to miss, being that I live quite close to this event

I did not want to miss one!

Natural Hair is becoming quite the niche and one that is quickly taking notice by the mainstream, although still quite small in numbers it is one movement that is really big in thought  with a ton of heart.

The whole weekend was full of workshops , shows and vendors showcasing their products. It was truly was great display of beauty, knowledge and unity among the naturalistas. Making it all the more memorable.

I had the chance to meet and hang out with Awesome Yirissi of the naturaliste, adorable Moon of Honeysucklemoon.com and the fabulous Alicia James. An Incredible singer and songwriter with amazing vocals.

I also had the chance to meet and discuss all natural Makeup with Kim Roxie one of the co-founders of the all Natural Beauty Company Lamik. Kim is one smart chick, with an eye for beauty. She gave me a kick butt eye defining session showing me a couple of pointers on how to make my brown eyes pop!

Stay Tuned for the next  post with a in depth review of the company Lamik.

Truly a Gem!

The Natural Hair and beauty workshop in Orlando was wonderful and I am glad I got the chance to go. If you had the chance to go I would love to know what you thought about the event if you had the chance to attend.

Great Event!

Recently, I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with my hair. Having a 4b, 4c hair texture to some people can be a blessing or a curse. Although I see it as more of a blessing that has been given to me. The longer my hair has gotten the more I am really enjoying doing my hair. When my hair was in its relaxed state. I never did my hair, in fact I never liked hair period.

I was that one girl that went to the salon, but only for a wash and roller set. No real styles because I was clueless how to keep and maintain the look. So I just stuck to the usual pull my hair back in a bun mode. Don't even ask me about trying to curl my hair because that is something that was not even in my vocabulary.

After, I had a childhood friend who tried to curl my bangs one day before middle school, however instead of curling she ended burning the whole top part of my forehead. Leaving behind a huge a black mark which took years to go away.

In the ended, leaving me scolded with a childhood memory of hating the smelly relaxers, burning pressing combs and hair crackling curling irons

Now that I am older, and loving my natural hair texture all the more. Being able to do styles that I never thought my hair would do is actually becoming quite fun!

I am really enjoying my hair!

Having a coily, not so curly hair texture is not the end all to your natural hair journey in fact it is only the beginning.

I ended up doing this Up do last night on my hair.

natural hair

It is chunky twist out on dry hair of about 10 to 18 twist depending on how thick your hair is.

I don't know why that bobby pin was sticking out, I had forgot to push it back up….

The products I put on my hair the day before was a my mixture of Shea butter, argon oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil.

All I did was pull the twists back in to sections and pinned them up with black bobby pins in the back.

There you go.

A classic look with a simple touch.

P.S. I would love to know what you think about it.

Jane Carter Nourish And Shine Review

For the past 9 months are so I have been using a line of products from the Jane Carter Solutions Hair line. I have will to admit that I have not used all the products all though, the few that I have used so far is the Jane Carter Nourish & Shine hair butter for dry hair and skin. Along with Jane Carter Leave in spray conditioner.

I do plan to use more, but at the moment those are the only ones that I have had the chance to use so far. Mrs Jane Carter does carry a line of shampoo products and I will review them in the coming week

The reason that I wanted to share this product is because I am absolutely in love with Jane carter products so far. In the beginning of my natural hair journey when I did not have any hair but a short Shenandoah hair cut. there was not much to do but wash and go's and spray some leave in on.

Once my hair started getting longer, I was able to experiment with more hair products and styles. I did the whole Shea butter mixed with coconut and my hair did well with the mixture but it was like it was needing something else. It still sort of felt dry in a way, I realized that coconut oil in its pure form tends to make my hair feel crunchy

So when I heard about Jane Carter Nourish and Shine Butter I decided to give it try,  I ended up washing m my hair as usual and letting it air dry in  large twists than I did mini twists with the Jane carter hair butter. What I first noticed was that it was a whole lot creamier and silkier feeling than my homemade mixture. Than it glided on my hair really smoothly allowing me to do my twists out really well with great hold.

My Hair  looked shiner than ever, felt softer by far and even after 7 days passed by when I took the  mini twists out  the mixture gave my hair more definition and shine that it ever had. I have not tried many other butters, because when I do they have not lived up to this particular formulation for my hair.

I have a 4c hair type and this butter works fantastic.

My only drawback for the product is that I wish that for the price that it came in a larger amount which would last me a lot longer, but it lasts pretty long.

Some of the ingredients include:

  • Mango butter – Helps to prevent drying and increase elasticity.
  • Organic Illippe – Moisturizes and allows more hold.
  • Kokum Butter  and Shea butters
  • vitamins A, D,, E, and grapefruit extracts.

I love this product and it is one of my main staples when I do all my twists out and other styling methods.

I'm sure you will love it to!

Have u you tried the product?

I would love to know if you did:)

Last Child In The Woods By Richard Louv

You ever sit back and remember how it was when you were a child, and how you were able to go outside to play on your own. Not worrying about the stranger next door, not caring about the car coming down the road, or even a care in the world about what might bite you.

The care freeness that came with just being a kid outside and loving nature, playing on the playground, finding insects and the great discovering of wonderment of learning about the world. That is how it was when we were younger, but now there is a great fear in the world. A sad fear of nature and the possibility of what might happen. Parents are afraid of allowing their children to go outside and explore life, and the simple beauty of nature.

Nature is the Ultimate Playground for kids, and nothing can even come close to it.

Even I have to admit that even I for a bit when my oldest son was younger worried because of his huge allergies to insect bites and what not. However I do not want my children to grow up with ever experiencing the sounds of nature, such as the birds in the early morning, the greenery of the woods, or even the joy of even finding a wounded animal that might still be alive enough to salvage and help back to life.

Every year parents spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on toys and activities for their kids. While many of things are great for keeping young minds and bodies active, many of them are just plain out unnecessary. Sure kids need structured play, but they also need “free” play and this is easy to do when the world’s largest playground is right outside your back door.

Why not let them play outside?

Every toy, book, and TV show that comes out has been designed and redesigned several times in order to make it educational and entertaining for children. The great thing about nature is that, while being entertaining and stimulating to the imagination, it’s also educational. Nature can teach children the basics of science, economics, and creativity.

It’s cheap. Depending on where you live, exploring nature is usually pretty inexpensive, if not free. It may mean going out in your backyard, local park, or perhaps going to the local nature center or state park (which usually have low cost fees or memberships). This way, you don’t have to pay for expensive toys, jungle gyms, or memberships to expensive entertainment centers, but you still get the benefit of stimulating and educational play.

I for one limit the amount of games or toys that require batteries to make work.

It makes them think. Lately there’s been a trend in education towards inquiry based learning. Researchers have found that if students explore and experiment to figure out answers on their own, they’re going to learn better, and retain more information. It also helps them develop skills to be able to learn things on their own later.

What better environment to learn things than out in nature.

That is why I love the book Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv it is a great testimony to the whys and how's of why we should allow our children more free time outside, showing us even scientific studies that kids who play outside more are smarter and more relaxed.

His book covers the topics of:

  • The new Relationship between children and nature
  • Why the young and the rest of us need nature
  • The best of intentions why many don't play outside anymore
  • The Nature Child Reunion
  • The Jungle Backyard
  • Wonderland Opening the Frontier
  • To be Amazed

While it’s easy to forget, childhood isn’t just for learning about how to be an adult, it’s also about having fun. Nature gives kids a chance to use their imagination and be free to just be kids.

I recommend that you also take a look at I love Dirt! A great resource for parents who want to learn some new activities to get their kids back into nature.

A Natural Hair Song – Anitra Jay

Anitra Jay is someone that I recently learned about and glad that I have had the chance to listen to some of her music. An acoustic neo-soul singer/songwriter from  Charlotte, NC, who loves to write music,  and just recently began playing the guitar about six years ago. Is surely someone who is a force to be reckon with.  Anitra Jay has a smooth natural look not only to her hair but also to her voice.

Truly a charm,

The Natural Hair song is one that you can play in your car while your driving, rock it out in the house while your cleaning. Hey even better I recommend that you play it on those days that you are feeling down or having a hard time with your natural hair.  This song embodies what it means to be natural and loving your beautiful hair for what it is,  and the funny thing about it is that when you start to see your beautiful hair and realize how  great it is.  It is really and mentally life changing for your whole soul.

The Natural Hair song by Anitra Jay fully captures the essence of that in her song, which is beautifully made from the beginning down to the end.

Lovely song.

I wold love to know how you feel about song.
